As the title says, I have a significant birthday coming up(60) and are going to spoil myself with another tape deck. Absolutely love my D6C and Aiwa Ad-F990, After a good quality deck, Suggestions? Wanting old school and portable. As for cost I don’t really have price that I need to stick too. I have thought of a TPS-L2 are they good?(I like the look of a classic Walkman)I am wanting something that will put up with a few hours every night. Currently I seem to use my D6C most nights and during the day my Sanyo M4440 for on the move, beach, walking the dog and out in the garage. Unfortunately I can’t use any of my gear for work (live liner). So any ideas?

What is shipping like from Japan? I've got over 70 tape decks in my office (some are really small), looking around there's not any that stand out cuz I love them all.

I've piled up on the big Pioneers like the SK-61 and SK-51, big beautiful statement pieces and a perfect competitor to the Marantz/Superscope CRS-4000 Models. The cases are basically the same but they have different options so they look slightly different. For some reason, these high-quality boomers can be found for decent money and if you look you might find one of the more rare models with something like two tape decks (before they were hated).

I don't own a TPS-L2 and if I did I'd probably baby it but for something this size the Sony WA (the bricks!) are fun, the 8000 goes for big money but is really cool looking. The rest of the series is all nice builds with cool looks considering how big they are for the time period they were released.

    Good luck and happy birthday!

I certainly wouldn’t baby a TPS-L2 made to be heard. But I understand what you are saying. What I want/need is something that is classic. I have been suggested that I get a We Are Rewind or a FiiO but I can’t get that non genuine feeling. There’s something about having a bit of classic music art around the house. So at the moment just hunting/looking for something that grabs me, sounds good/classic/and looks good preferably in that order but not too worried.

    Cheers Kiwinut
