Hi learned stereo folks. I am in foreign territory more used to Mech Eng than electronics but will always try to repair anything. My 1980 Aiwa tape deck has been beckoning me for attention since failing a decade ago and I found a great repair thread by Nick Eccles and I am hoping for a steer towards spares and fitment. I am also pleased to see you use the same forum software as "thelatebay" for VW T2 camper enthusiasts where I am a regular supporter. So hope I press the right buttons.

Welcome, hopefully you can get the equipment up and running. One of the best tools is a JIS Screwdriver Set
    https://stereo2go.com/forums/threads/are-you-using-the-right-screwdriver-for-your-walkman-deck.5343/

Philips will work most of the time but there's always one screw that won't come out and you don't want to strip it, JIS has a better grip and has worked on all tight screws for me.

Those VW's are neat but go for silly money around here, check out this guy's business, lot's of cool old trucks hanging around. I feel like I've only seen one microbus in my life.....
