While nearly identical these two titans of monolithic sound must have been monsters when they came out in the early 80's. I've posted my Toshiba before, a beautiful rendition of a high end mono tape player and recorder. I recently scored a JVC MK-100, mainly due to it's closeness to my much adored MR-200 and thought they would make good mates. The MK-100 is no joke, all metal construction, very similar to the Toshiba in build quality and overall design. I love seeing the little things they did differently, the Toshiba has all of the transport buttons on the side, the JVC has PLAY/REC and REW/REC OFF on one side and REC, EJECT/REVIEW, FF/CUE on the other side. A plethoria of buttons for ultimate control. The Toshiba is 3V and the JVC is an energy hogging 6V which might compensate for some weaknesses but overall the Toshiba seems to be a better model, plus having the FM broadcasting feature is a bonus.
