So 3 years ago I got a Sony WM-FX38 off Amazon and worked and sounded great until now. When ever I FF or RW it makes the same clicking sounds the DD walkmans are known for and even though I have been cleaning the head and the rubber pinch roller thingys with 91% Alcohol every month. And two weeks ago it all of a sudden turned into a smoke bomb but still is working (ok). If anyone has some advice on what to do im all ears.
If it went up in smoke, open it and check what happened If it is still working OK, then relax and enjoy the music During FF/RW they all make some kind of unpleasant noises, except for a few hi-end decks with cassette stabilizers (and if rewinding decent cassettes, of course), so maybe what you are hearing during rewind is normal
I think you need to explain the issue better, in my experience, once the magic smoke comes out, nothing works. Is the clicking sound consistant, or is it when it stop (or start)? What did the smoke smell like, rubber tires or smokin electronics (kind of a burning battery but not sulfer smell). What does still working ok mean?
So the smoke smelled like rubber and the clicking is happening during ff and rw. everything on the player works fine except for the volume dial (makes static noises when adjusting).
