I am always buying Sony stuff from Japan, trying to get stuff cheap... this isn't a 'boombox', but it is a portable stereo of sorts... hope it's allowed here. With a purchase price of $40 from a Buyee Japan listing, here it is: It's not new, but it's all working but the CD and the cosmetics are great. laser pickup chirps like a bird, won't load anything haha. It's a KSS-213A , so swapping it is a Sunday picnic. Shipping was quite high, but even with landed costs, it's a steal to me! The CMT-ED1A is a little 'designer' portable job from Sony, around 1997 apparently. It reminds me so much of something BOSE would make at this time. It sounds really nice for its size, plenty of power, and it really looks executive and fancy with its glass lid and aluminum face. All of it is very high quality. The challenge is finding one complete, there are so many little parts like the CD stabilizer disc or extra speaker covers that gets lost over the years. Anyone else got any experience with this?
Sorry for the late reply, just saw this.... Cool unit! I wonder if the shopping experience is better in Japan, I know the big stores have a lot of cool stuff we never see here. If I go to local Best Buy, Target or Walmart, I'd never see a cool stereo, it's like they all sell something "good enough" like when you need it for a hotel room or pool area. If I wanted something like this I wouldn't even know where to look for one. At first I thought that was a MD player, it has a cassette, nice!
