Hello guys,i am Thanasis from Greece.

I recently found my old Sony Walkman from when i was a teenager, its a WM-F2081 and almost fully functional (still in need of Pinch rollers to be perfect). Three days ago i purchased an Aiwa PL303 from ebay, still waiting for this one to arrive (without an external battery compartment tho..so still not sure how to make this work),hopefully i will be able to restore this one.

    Good to be here.

    Welcome!

There are a few topics about Aiwa lead acid battery replacement options.
    Here is one link: http://stereo2go.com/forums/threads/aiwa-lead-acid-battery-nimh-substitute-tutorial.2786/
In the second thread a revival method for the old cells is explained.
The last post is mine: I used readily available materials to create a 2.4V replacement cell.
Not for the PB-3, but I think you could easily modify it to fit your Walkman.

Thank you!!Is 2.4v safe for the Walkman?I remember seeing some old posts from years ago debating that it might be ham full, for Walkman without volt regulator and AC adapter (if i remember right).
If your Walkman similar to mine?

I am using both my Aiwa units, 2.4V seems to be fine.
Just the tape speed has increased by 20% at least (just kidding).
I have not noticed any other adverse effects.

    I have 2 HS-EX2000 units and a HS-PX557.
I took the belt from the latter one, since these are mechanically identical. The other still has it’s original belt.
They all could do with new belts, will most likely happen soon. Playback is fine, ffwd and rewind troublesome.
From what I recall, the lead acid battery was really nothing to write home about back in the day.
A couple of hours, maybe 3 at most, for playback.
The new batteries should deliver a few hours more, although I have not put them to endurance test yet.
