Hi! Just signed up because I saw a General Electric M9000A cassette changer at Goodwill and this forum is the only mention I'm seeing on the internet for this particular piece of junk, except for Pinterest. Anyway, I was born in '76 so my first decade of music was on mid-80s portable devices, including several sony sports walkmans, and a couple of cheapo ghettoblasters on my dresser. Never did get a discman, though I wanted one so much. Mahalo!
Welcome! I love those cassette changers but don't own one, I was surprised that they go for hundreds of dollars on Ebay. They were aimed at the commercial market for all-day prerecorded bliss so there aren't a ton of them out there. The build quality is top-notch and most likely hand-assembled. I've never seen one and I've been everywhere, that might be the only one you'll ever see. The cool thing about cassettes and players is that you can get a box of tapes for a few bucks, find and old deck, replace the belts, and have a cool way to play back music. I love the design and builds from an era that will never come back, some of the equipment like equilizers are hypnotic but also boisterous. A full stack is really cool and with a few adapter cables, can play modern music effortlessly.
