Hello guys! I only registered to be able to contact people well-taught in the subject. Maybe I can find proper help here. The story: I was in elementary school, mid to late 90's, Hungary. I was probably around 11-12 years old. It was a friday at school, the last class was math. Somebody from the previous session left something in the desk. As I put out my stuff to the desk I saw some cables, I thought it's valuable and didn't look until the end of the day. Turned out it was a Panasonic walkman. I enjoyed the hell out of it for the weekend but my parents ordered me to return it and give it to the teacher's lost and found section. I loved it but I returned it the next monday but for my next birth day, I believe it was my 13th I got a Panasonic walkman in compensation but it wasn't the same, not by a long shot... And I'm searching for the same type ever since I got my hand on the internet. Please help me identify it. Here are the details I know or I think I know (this was about 20 years ago so my memories might not be the most clear): -it was really slim -the color was probably silver (maybe light blue) -the buttons were digital, so you didn't have to push in the read head manually, just a slight tap on the button and the tape started playing -when it got to the end it reversed the playing direction automatically -I think the play button had 2 triangles facing in two direction and I tap changed the playing direction (but I'm not sure in this one) -the buttons were on the longer edge of the housing, not on the faces -it had a screw-on battery compartment holding 1 AA battery (some sort of thumb screw, not requiring a screw driver) -I don't remember it having any fancy button arrangement on the faces, they were clean more or less -I don't remember it having a rechargeable battery "stick" -the whole thing was the size of a cassette more or less with a AA battery attached to the side, but I faintly remember it being a little longer than the regular walkman even without the screw-on battery thingy I found a couple of models that are really close but none of them was THE model I was looking for. The Panasonic RQ-S15 is the closest but this has that weird battery and this is black instead of silver. Panasonic RQ-SX91 is also very similar but I don't remember having that weird latching door on it. But maybe I'm wrong on that one... Panasonic RQ-S33 is the closest but the buttons look different in my head (but who knows, maybe it was this but I welcome any suggestion) It would really make me happy to be able to identify it and even get my hands on one. Thank you for your help in advance! -Tom
Most probably the walkman you are looking for belong to RQ-S series (not RQ-Sx). Panasonic RQ-S33 is close to what you described. Most Panasonic slim line walkman units accommodate a flat battery and external battery holder for one AA battery.
Hello Tom and welcome to the forum. I think you have narrowed down pretty well what you're looking for , some additions that may be of help. Consider also : - RQ-S3 Year : 1989 , Colors : Black , White , Turquoise (?) - RQ-S35 Year : 1992 ,Colors : Black , Blue , Green , Yellow , almost the same as RQ-S33 , different door shape and maybe tech specs. For your candidates : - RQ-S15 Year 1991 , Colors : various , including Blue and White. Checked all Panasonic years and these models , including yours , are the most relevant according to your memories. Above all , my respect to your parents !
Thanks! The owner came to pick up the same monday monrning I left the walkman at the teacher's room, probably 10 minutes after I dropped it off. I didn't feel bad for returning it nor good, but the fact that the same type of walkman haunts me to this day is something else
