    Hi all,

I'd like to ask the forum if this Walkman is beyond repair. It's a a TPS-L2 that I dug up when I visited home a while back, and it's something I treasured as a kid. It would be amazing to restore it—I have a good collection of cassettes—but I can't find answers elsewhere on the Web.

The batteries leaked while it was in storage. I gave it a quick once over with vinegar, then DeOxit, and opened the unit to take some photos. The cosmetic damage is unfortunate but the more serious issue is that the unit
doesn't indicate power with fresh AA batteries in place.

Here are the images for anyone who might like to take a look. Would anyone here be able to give a prognosis? I'd be very thankful.

It doesn't look great. The places indicated are concerning. You would need to flip the board to be sure.

    Do you have soldering experience?

Not enough soldering experience to give me confidence. It would be beautiful if it could work without surgical intervention but life is too short. Thank you for the response, though. Now at least I have closure.

If you aren't interested in keeping it Id be happy to buy it off you and see if I could salvage it myself. Does make a nice display piece though

As a minimum for repairing you need a test meter for checking your battery voltage is actually reaching the board etc. They aren't expensive.
The good news is that if you put the TPS-L2 back together it still has a high value for Guardians of the Galaxy fans.
