I would love to add a rechargeable battery to my boombox. I read through a few postings here, but I am not clear on the choice of battery. The RX-f35 requires 12V DC to operate. It would be nice to get at least 3 hours of power supply from the rechargeable battery pack. I looked through available options, and one of them is here: https://hobbyking.com/en_us/turnigy...0mah-3s2p-12c-multi-rotor-lipo-pack-xt60.html Minimum Capacity: 5200mAh Configuration: 3S / 11.4v / 3Cell Also, I would prefer to keep the battery charging while the boombox is plugged in and in use. Should I solder the power supply wires straight into the motherboard or is there another better way to do it? I will appreciate any help and info. Thank you!
For me personally I cringe when people want to modify classic equipment. I have like eight-thousand Eneloop Batteries, most are AAA, but they make shells these slide into for C and D size batteries. I would just buy a box of these and call it a day, IKEA Batteries are supposedly made by Eneloop and are priced much better (as long as they say Made In Japan). If it was a crusty boombox project, I might attempt it. I'd probably look at something like the ION Jobrocker Schematics and see how they wire everything together. Your still going to need a wall-wart, I don't know if you can charge them off the internal power supply easily. Good luck and let us know what you find.
Thank you for your voice of reason and a sound advice. The thought of retrofit has been on my mind for a while. However , what you said was exactly what I needed to hear. There’s always a dilemma on improving upon or keeping it “classic”. This is definitely not a crusty boomboxes project. I had this one since 1985, and the only modification was the external speakers. That’s it. Truth be told, keep it real and keep it original. once again, thank you for your time and ideas.
Everything I own is vintage, not sure what my problem is but I have a difficult time changing things. I'm changing the engine in my little car and I'm happy to keep it a robust 1.8L. I think even the car guys are changing, every video on YouTube now, where they get crazy HP out of modern BMWs, is easily reversable. The performance parts bolt on, and then when they sell, they pull it off and put the old stuff back on. The killer Japanese Cars from the last 20 years are more valuble if they haven't been modified. I think if these boxes had our rechargeable power we have today, millions more would still be in use.
No doubt! In fact, In spite of my profound loyalty to the equipment from the bygone era, and I have to accept the fact that the average google speaker sounds better now. But, it is not the same. I just prefer THAT imperfect sound, the real thing at the end of the day, this is exactly WHY we love those boxes.
