    Hi,
Does anybody know where to get the felt-like tape used by Sony to hold cables on the Walkman?

    This stuff:

The glue has mostly dried out on mine and while I can replace it with electrical or Kapton tape, I really like to keep it as authentic as possible.

We sell something at work which is similar. Its a VW loom tape part number 000 979 950, may be worth a look?

    Thanks for the tips!
The ebay stuff looks pretty cheap. I wonder what quality it is.
I've seen from other forums that Volkswagen shops sell woven stuff to car audio enthusiasts, so that is probably of decent quality.

The problem with ebay/amazon/ali felt tape is that its usually very thick, around 1mm. The Sony types are 0.3-0.5mm thick. I'd like to find a 1:1 replacement as well. For now I use cloth tape.

I'll try TESA 51608 and see how that compares. Pretty sure it's the same as the VW stuff.

I've tried the TESA 51608 but found it not quite sticky enough for small peices to hold the wiring in place in a WM-D6. It's probably ideal if you want to wrap it round on itself to make up a wiring loom.

I have ordered some of this, which arrived today.

It looks more like the original tape used by Sony and I think it's a bit stickier than the TESA but I won't really know until I've tried it out a few times. It is only 0.5mm thick so that is not a problem.

Another thing is take a picture before you start removing the tape
so the wires can go back the same way.

    That looks perfect!
Too bad about UK only shipping though. I notice he has the 1mm variant available with international shipping, but at £23 shipping I'll shop around first
Let us know if you can find some branding or model number on that tape.

Transwave 5 - I agree about the need to take photographs, not just at the start of a job but all the way through. I regard the digital camera as part of my toolkit. I have attached a photo of the wiring on a Sony WM-D6 as it left the factory for reference.

YonWalk, it may be worth contacting the seller and asking about postage to Norway. £23 does seem excessive. Sometimes the Ebay system calculates postage rates automatically. I have been ordering some pinch rollers from the US recently (1 ebay and 1 direct from the supplier's own website). In both cases their systems initially gave unrealistic shipping costs and I contacted the sellers and explained the problem. In both cases they have looked into it and revised their shipping rates.

    Thanks,
Yeah, I've already contacted the seller. Hopefully he can just stick it in an envelope and send as a letter.

There is double sided scotch tape and other double sided tapes available.
That will keep the original felt on it.
Got some from a craft store and dollar store.
