Back in 1982 people were more likely to buy a stereo from a company they had heard of like Amstrad or Fisher. An error I spotted in the First Man film was the Astronauts watching a 1960s Russian Space launch on a Samsung TV. Samsung didn't start making TVs until 1970 and even then they were using Sanyo parts. https://en.tab-tv.com/?p=22997 1982 was the first year the U.K. started getting imports of cars from Korea, with 2993 Hyundai Ponys sold here. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyundai_Motor_Company#History I had heard before that the people behind the Pony used to work for British Leyland (Rover) but didn't realise they were the ones behind the Marina (despised by Top Gear).
I just mentioned Samsung in another thread, we didn't get Korean Imports until the late 90's? We were getting the Hyundai earlier but I don't remember any other products. I have one early Samsung Boombox, it's the only one I've ever seen for sale and I snagged it. Heavy build, medium size, metal trim rings and not bad looking. It is a USA Model but I don't know how it got by our trade restrictions.
