Let me see if I can get a better picture Okay that's the top. Hopefully better. Yes the push button for the counter is missing. Maybe it's inside. I don't know. I don't hear anything rattling inside. This is my example. Maybe you can find the better one out there, but I'm going to try to replace the belt as I can hear the motor running but none of the functions work for the cassette deck presently. I hope to remedy that by servicing this and also the other controls all work without scratchiness but I'm going to deoxit them anyway.
So you remove six screws from the back and the back just comes off. All six screws are the same size or length It looks like this is on a internal chassis so once you remove the function knobs from the top I should be able to remove this in its entirety from the front of the radio From the bottom view I can see the belt in there so it's probably just loose and of course need replacing. Yes it is on a chassis and it just almost fell out and the trim ring for the Vu meter is just glued on and it fell off as well as the side panels are now loose and need to be glued on. The woofer is 6 in. A tweeter is 2 in I probably have to remove the tuner window to release the cassette deck from the front and that's just two screws, one on either side of the tuner window. Evidently there's two bulbs and now that I'm looking closer I don't see any screws. So how does it come off, looks like it's clipped in place so I have to carefully pry it off. Meanwhile, I'm going to probably remove the main woofer before attempting any repairs cuz I don't want to damage the woofer and I looked on the back and this time the speaker leads are using push-ons. Let's get a picture of that Good Edit No, I didn't have to do any of that I mentioned above. I didn't have to remove the tuner window or the speaker. Just be careful with the speaker as I have it on a foam covered towel or towel covered foam, whichever. I discovered all I had to do was unclip the circuit board from the back that was covering the cassette deck and also slide out of its socket or area. The recording 5 pin din plug. And flop the board over next is to remove the I guess two screws covering the mechanism so I can get to the belts and replace them as they are loose Get a close-up of the tape deck belt area. Looks like one screw off the metal plate near the motor. And one another screw up near the light button. Hopefully I can see this in this picture.
Okay, I remove the long screw at the top and the short screw down near the motor and just push this cover away and then that reveals that I can remove tye. I guess automatic stop belts and then the main drive belt. Hopefully replace both Now we're going to go find belts Those obviously are stretched the ones I took out About 62 mm roughly for the old belt 125 mm for the old belt so we'll look for a smaller one for each and replace them.
This is the idler tire. It's worn. I'm going to try to replace it but it's darn difficult to get Hard to explain, but the covering wheel that rubs on the spindles doesn't quite move out of the way to allow me access to removing that. C-clip from the underneath wheel. So I can hopefully replace the tire that's on it and then make the take up reel do its job as right now in play mode is not rotating it because it's not touching it. Everything else works. Forwarded and rewinding The take-up reel is not working. I replaced it with this The old one is on my finger. The new one is working, and what I replaced was the tire going around the spindle not where I took the c-clip off. That's still good now I just got to put that c-clip back on.
OK I had time to watch that latest one now and the CF-1990 certainly sounds better. I kinda wonder how you would rank the CF-1990 compared to all the Mono boxes you had and can remember? Does it even get into the top 3? From what I can tell by videos and others comments alone, plus quality, looks, compactness etc,. I put the Sony 1990 right up there next to JVC RC 550. And I don't even own either one! It has to be one of the greatest in my humble observers opinion.
Bottom line, you just have to get a Victor or JVC RC-550! Me I prefer the Victor RC-550 Nuff said. Yes I watched that video where those three are compared, Sanyo M-2448, Victor RC 550 and Sony CF-1990. Very good. Maybe I will get a JVC / Victor RC 550 one day.
Sony CF-470 belt sizes as measured by solid non stretching thread: Small belt = 123mm. Large belt = 248mm.
