    Hi,
I got a new Sony D6C that was faulty. Everything works fine except the rewind and fast forward function. I changed the belt and now the rewind function works fine, the fast forward function works for just about two seconds before it stops. Another issue I noticed is the counter. When I rewind the counter does nothing, when I play or fast forward the counter works. Is this a correct behavior?

    Thanks for your help!

    Regards from Germany
    Torsten

    Hello and welcome to Stereo2Go.

The counter should work in rewind as well as play or fast forward. Maybe the very small belt for the timer is loose.

Normally when you put a D6C into FF or REW, the power to the motor will cut about 2 seconds after it reaches the end of the tape. The REW or FF button will remain pressed in but the motor will not run. There is an optical rotation sensor, on the supply side hub mechanism.
When the supply side hub stops rotating then the power to the motor is cut about 2 seconds later.

I would start by checking around the rotation sensor (PH701, Q701, Q702, the rotating disk with the silver reflective segments on it) and the voltage on Pin 7 of IC601.

You are damn right. Everything works fine with an inserted cassette.

    Thank you.

It's good to hear that it's working OK.
