I thought I'd share this as it's an interesting model with built-in retractable headphones. I bought it on ebay as spares/repair, it was described as a used item with a broken facia and bent mechanism. It looked like it was in good condition apart from the front cover being detached and a bit of bent metal. It seems that the cover was removed before the retaining screw, resulting in a bit of bent metal The door hinge and the tape holding frame needed a bit of straightening out The belt needed replacing and a minor tweak to the speed And put it all together again I like the remote functions built into the headphones - it is a bit bulky but I like it and might even add it to my collection. Does anyone have one of these?
@RTB It's a nice looking design ! Do you happen to have the service manual for it ? I want to check if it has a magnetic clutch and add it to the list of potential problematic clutches. Given EX910 and EX921 are already on the list, I have a feeling this might be as well. https://stereo2go.com/forums/threads/list-of-walkman-portable-recorders-common-problems.7535/ (look at post #4)
From a motor, playback head and current draw perspective it seems to be very closely related to the EX612.
