I just changed the belt on this brand new Walkman , radio works fine, sound is excellent but when I play cassette no sounds can be heard . The cassette mechanism works, play, auto reverse button, FFW and REW all work.
    Any suggestion?

Can you record on a tape in this unit and play it in another unit?

haven't tried it. I can try it this weekend.
So what will be the problem if it records on cassette that can be played on another device?

I just have a bad habit of snapping the little wires when I reassemble equipment, they get pinched and broken. I was just thinking that maybe the wires for the heads (if there are any) might have been pinched.

I will open it again to make sure there is no loose wire or any problem with wires

    Update:
I opened the walkman and everything looked fine.
I recorded a few seconds on this walkman and amazingly after pushing record button everything started working.
and still I don't know how pushing record button resolved the issue.
    Thanks to @Mister X

Probably it's the alignment of the rec/pb switch? Like somehow it was misaligned a bit, resting at a point between the rec & pb position, so the contacts weren't lined up. By pressing the record switch (and changing it back to play mode), the proper switch position was restored.

Now that you mentioned it, I remembered accidentally pressing record and hearing back sound from from silent unit. Did not realize the connection back then, but this will certainly be of note in the future.

@Mister X you sound like my personal Guru, Master Gu of kaosuncd.com: to my uneducated Q he would give an exact answer:bad cap this or that, flexboard, etc. and it is Always spot-on! Truly amazing, but thats what separates boys from The Masters! I am seriously impressed!!!
