I saw this new VWestlife video this morning and found it interesting so thought people here might as well It wouldn't surprise me if some of these tapes are good for another 50 years. I wonder how well peoples MP3s, Spotify etc will be playing in fifty years time.
IT's a very interesting video. Sad that he take very poor (almost null) care of the lighting and image quality. His videos will improve so much if he do...
I don't want to jinx myself but I have found that cassettes are anything but fragile. I have well over 800 cassettes from the 1978-1991 and although I have never really put an effort towards protecting them environmentally, they seem to have survived very well. I have kept them in my car, in the attic and most have been in my hot garage for 20 years. I play cassettes each and every day and out of all my cassettes I have only lost approximately 3 or 4 cassettes to circumstances relating to tape failure. I wore out a Michael Jackson Thriller cassette, I rewound a Rebel Yell so many times that it stretched and finally got eaten and I have retired a couple due to tape-squeal. I will say that I do take care to handle them rather carefully and keep them clean and dry but as far as heat and cold go... they have seen it all.
