Thought I would make a quick post about a rather untrustworthy repair shop in the big apple by the name of Hi-Tech Electronic Service Center. They have a decent reputation on Yelp by a number of people, however I've heard way too many negative experiences from other people who have visited the shop on other sites such as Reddit. I took my pro tape deck there to get a rather basic electronic calibration done for $100, however upon receiving the unit back, all they had done was slapped a post-it on it which read 'OK.' I could tell nothing was done as the pots in the machine were not touched from when I tinkered with them before. Along with my experience, some other fellow who was getting their D6C repaired, had it held hostage at the store for some vague reasons trying to squeeze some more money out of the poor kid who just wanted the walkman serviced. I'd advise anyone in the NYC area to stay away from the place.
I've done sales for various larger projects and units and one thing I always do is list everything that will be done and the products used for the quote. If your not getting an itemized list I'd expect them to short you on service, they might just run through some test tapes on a wow and flutter meter and call it a day. I'd also verbally let them know doomsday scenerios, non-normal situations that might arise and add to the expense if it's a construction project. Sometimes we'd expect concrete to be 5" thick with 1/2" rebar and have to bust that out, this was about 95 out of 100 jobs. Then one would be 8" thick with 3/4" rebar requiring much larger equipment to remove.
