I expect they were one of those brands buying in a few hundred boxes with their name on them. Actually the worldwide voltage thing is a bit of a clue. A manufacturer selling thousands of boxes would save components and money by making a North American version and a European version. You could try looking for a service manual though I suspect you won't find one. Back in 1977 established names like Sanyo produced one for every product they put on the market.
