I've replaced the belt and cleaned all of the gears and such, but I haven't been able to figure out why. The grinding seems to be due to the Intermediate gear off the capstan not meshing properly with the "reel table" as Sony puts it. (See Image) The lever that moves this gear appears to be fine and the motor moves it completely. I'm starting to think that the gear may have shrunken slightly, causing the misalignment. I'm wondering if anyone else has had an issue similar to this?
