Actually, Sonys from the mid 70s to the mid 80s were VERY high quality. It's the 90s Sonys that sucked, especially the yellow Sports rubbish.

You're right, some Japanese radios were assembled in Nigeria and Venezuela to avoid import restrictions. But I didn't think it happened in the UK...
