Hey there, I recently got my hands a wm-DD33 and already replaced the center gear but I now have an issue where autostop kicks in directly after pressing rewind.
Does rewind have a different way of handling autostop than play or FF or is this caused by a bent center gear assembly?

I followed your guide but it hasn't remedied the issue, I applied wd-40 white lithium with a q-tip where grease needed to be applied if that makes any difference.

Check if the lever with lighter spring is fully coming back to resting position, that's what matters.
Also if after making the lever slide freely, button still doesn't latch check the edges of those lever near REW button for any sharp edges.
It's possible those edges may need some sanding becuase they're not catching into the button groove.

Here's a link to video of the lever working as it should and my issue.

Good that you posted the video, as now I realise your initial assesment was correct.
Problem is caused by a black lever from the auto-stop mechanism not being inserted into the plastic slider.
It's a common mistake on DD center gear repairs, as that lever tends to go up and won't fall naturally into the slider.
